LouCity Aim to Extend Run at Colorado Springs
Still riding the positive wave generated by Oscar Jimenez’s dramatic late winner last weekend, Louisville City FC will look to build momentum on the road this Saturday against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET at Weidner Field.
Jimenez’s stoppage-time volley to snatch a 2-1 victory against Oakland Roots SC marked the latest goal scored in the USL Championship this season. The comeback win boosted LouCity into fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
With eight games remaining, coach Danny Cruz’s side is firmly in the playoff picture but hopes to continue climbing the table. A strong run of road form will be key, as four of City’s next five matches come away from Lynn Family Stadium.
Saturday’s hosts Colorado Springs sit just outside the playoff places out West in sixth. They’ll be shorthanded, with three players suspended after late red cards in their previous match.
Veteran LouCity attacker Brian Ownby could again play an impact role off the bench. He returned from injury to equalize against Oakland just 11 minutes after coming on last weekend.
If City can replicate the resilience and determination showed in erasing a late deficit to beat the Roots, three points seem to be the expectation on Saturday night.
Cruz will need to rotate the squad with matches coming thick and fast. But if LouCity can continue riding the momentum from Jimenez’s special moment, their playoff push will gain further steam on the road.
