LouCity Host First International Friendly

Louisville City FC is set to host an exciting international friendly match against FC Kaiserslautern from Germany on Wednesday at Lynn Family Stadium. This will be a historic occasion for LouCity as they play their first-ever international friendly, providing fans with a unique opportunity to witness a matchup between strong clubs from the German and American second divisions.

FC Kaiserslautern, known as FCK, is in the midst of its preseason preparations for the upcoming 2023-2024 2. Bundesliga campaign. The visit to Louisville is part of their U.S. tour before they head to Minnesota United for another friendly match on June 28.

FCK is a renowned club with a rich history in German football. They have won their country’s highest division four times, with their most recent title coming in 1998 when they were promoted back to the Bundesliga. Additionally, FCK won the German Cup twice in 1990 and 1996.

The German club enjoys strong support, boasting an average attendance of 40,490 at their home stadium, Fritz Walter Stadium, making them the second-highest attended second-division club worldwide. FCK’s leading goal scorer, U.S. international Terrence Boyd, who coincidentally played alongside LouCity coach Danny Cruz in the youth national team, is expected to showcase his skills during the U.S. summer tour.

For the Louisville community, the game presents a fantastic opportunity to experience German-inspired food and drinks. The Lynn Family Stadium Fan Zone will open early, offering a happy hour with $2 beer and bratwurst. German beer will be served in commemorative steins, and unique culinary options like a schnitzel sandwich will be available at the concession stands.

The match holds special significance due to the close connection between FCK and the American military community-based in Kaiserslautern. With over 50,000 people, it is the largest U.S. military community outside the country. The game in Louisville will be FCK’s first-ever match on American soil, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.

Louisville City FC will face FCK amidst a busy schedule, playing three games in eight days. They recently played against Phoenix Rising FC and will also host Las Vegas Lights FC this coming Saturday. Furthermore, LouCity’s second international friendly is scheduled against Mexico’s Atlanta FC on July 15.

As far as what to expect from this match, I would not expect a lot of scoring. Considering where LouCity is in their season and how they are fighting for every point at this time while FCK is playing their first preseason match. I hope to see LouCity relax a bit and enjoy the match. I would really like to see Pouwels get some time on the pitch in front of the home crowd. It would be really awesome if he would be able to score a winning goal as it would endear him to the fans in Louisville. I will Predict: LouCity 1 FCK 0.

To follow all the action, local fans can catch the action live on MyTV 58 and ESPN Louisville’s 680/105.7. For streaming coverage within the U.S., the match will be available on ESPN+. Tickets for the game can be purchased through LouCity.com/friendly, ensuring a memorable experience for soccer enthusiasts in Louisville.
