Louisville City FC will be announcing an exciting signing later today as they have inked a deal with Elizabethtown native Jansen Wilson to bolster their midfield depth. Wilson joins the boys in purple after earning a professional contract on the back of an impressive preseason trial.  

A versatile and pacey midfielder, Wilson starred locally in high school. Playing three seasons for Elizabethtown High School, Wilson was instrumental in guiding the Panthers to back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018. He produced eye-catching numbers with 55 assists and 50 goals over that span. His promising youth career included a stint with MLS side Columbus Crew’s academy before embarking on a strong college run.

Wilson played three seasons at Kentucky, tallying four goals and two assists in 41 appearances with the Wildcats. He then transferred to Belmont for his final two years of NCAA eligibility, registering an additional 11 assists and six goals in 36 matches with the Bruins.

The local connections run deep for Wilson, as he also had 9 goals and 5 assists in 10 appearances in two seasons with the Bowling Green Football Club (BGFC) in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). Wilson is considered to be one of the Golden Lion’s most efficient players in their club’s short history. 

Wilson will now look to help drive Louisville City to further success in its 10th anniversary season. After decorated high school, college, and semi-pro careers across the state, the 23-year-old midfielder realizes a dream by turning professional with his hometown USL Championship club. If his high motor and dynamic playmaking ability on the wing can translate to the pro game, Wilson may prove to be an under-the-radar signing who provides a valuable spark.

A returning core, eager to contend again this season, will welcome Wilson in with open arms. The Boys in Purple, including Wilson, will have their first home match on March 23rd against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. It’s certain that we’ll be there; what about you?
