Last-Minute Drama Gotham vs. Louisville Ends in Draw

After picking up a 2-0 loss versus Washington Spirit last weekend, Gotham FC sought to regain momentum at home today versus Racing Louisville. Gotham FC, the reigning champions, have struggled in their first four games of the regular season as injuries and international duties have posed an early-season challenge.

Earlier this year Racing Louisville and Gotham Face faced off during The Women’s Cup Colombia tournament. The two teams battled fiercely in a competitive showdown to say the least. Racing Louisville were strong contenders to win after an incredible first half, but Gotham FC fought back and conquered with a 3-1 win.

Today’s match was the eighth time Gotham FC and Louisville faced off, with Racing holding the edge with a record of 2-1-5. The match was highly anticipated considering the way the season has unfolded for both clubs.

Many Gotham FC fans were eager to find out if their new goalkeeper, Ann-Katrin Berger, would play in today’s match; Berger did start today. Berger, Chelsea goalkeeper, joined Gotham FC this season for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Fans held their breath the entire match as neither team scored until stoppage time. At 90+6′, Racing Louisville’s Emma Sears crossed it in to Parker Goins, whose shot was deflected, but Reilyn Turner finished it and scored. Shortly after at 90+8′ Gotham equalized with a goal by Rose Lavelle in her debut.

This was not the outcome either team wanted. Both teams played tough and the match was toe-to-toe the entire time. Gotham FC’s defense was tight, causing Racing Louisville to fight for their goal in extra time. Nevertheless, Racing Louisville kept firing shots and delivered an equally strong performance. Tonight both teams will walk away sharing points.
