Racing Louisville FC Makes History with Epic Victory

On Saturday afternoon, Racing Louisville FC not only secured a win but also a couple historic milestones. The squad hosted the Utah Royals on April 20; this marked the first National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match in league history in which two former NWSL players competed against each other as coaches.

The milestones kept coming on the sunny afternoon at Lynn Family Stadium. Racing Louisville’s 5-1 victory over the Utah Royals marked the highest goals scored in Racing’s club history. The match versus Utah Royals also marked the club’s first win of the 2024 NWSL season in front of their largest crowd of 11,365 fans—breaking the previous attendance record by more than 1,000 fans.

In the first half, Racing Louisville scored the first goal of the match in the 26’ minute. Nigerian forward Uchenna Kanu headed the ball to the back of the net, marking her fourth goal of the season. This goal also holds the record for the most goals scored so far in the 2024 season.Racing Louisville fan Amanda Wilburn attended the match with her boyfriend Chris Lloyd. Amanda stated, “It was awesome to have so many fans there for such an incredible and well-deserved win.”

Racing Louisville remains undefeated with their first win of the season, breaking the stretch of four consecutive draws. Moreover, this was the club’s first win with their new head coach Bev Yanez as multiple records were broken for the club. In the post-game interviews, Yanez said: “It feels amazing for this group. They work so hard every single day to be the best that they can be, and to be able to have this breakthrough, obviously it’s something we’ve really wanted and we’ve been yearning for. Having that here at home in front of a record-breaking crowd is the most special moment for all of us.”

With their historic win over the Utah Royals, Racing Louisville is now fifth in NWSL standings. The squad is hopeful and aims to secure another win as they travel to battle Gotham FC on Sunday, April 28.
