LouCity Draws 1-1 with Memphis 901

Louisville City FC and Memphis 901 FC faced off in an exciting USL Championship game on April 29, 2023. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams extending their unbeaten streaks. LouCity took an early lead with Sean Totsch’s ninth-minute goal, but Memphis equalized early in the second half with Luiz Fernando’s goal.

Despite being on tired legs, both teams made the result of four straight unbeaten games. This match was LouCity’s third game in eight days, whereas Memphis had a midweek upset win over Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United in the U.S. Open Cup.

Totsch’s header, following a corner from Ray Serrano, gave LouCity an early lead. However, the team struggled to create more chances, and Memphis claimed the majority of possession. Memphis’ goal came after LouCity blocked Fernando’s first shot, rebounded, and went in after Wynder’s diving attempt.

Memphis had a total of 17 shots, with only 4 landing on target. In contrast, LouCity had just 2 shots on target. Rookie goalkeeper Oliver Semmle saved Memphis’ other three shots on target, preventing LouCity from losing the game.

LouCity’s performance in the final third was underwhelming, with the team scoring just one goal in their opening-day victory against Orange County SC. However, the team is in a good spot with four wins, two draws, and 14 points.

Looking forward, LouCity has a week off, pausing to coincide with the Kentucky Derby. The team will host Miami FC on May 13 at Lynn Family Stadium.
