BGFC Blows Out Pumas
In front of a lively crowd on a cool late May evening in Mayfield, Kentucky, the Bowling Green Football Club dominated their Western Kentucky rivals Pumas Premier 4 to 0.
The Golden Lions rebounded from their collapse in Murfreesboro on Friday night by expelling their frustrations by showing their class against a team that sat higher than them in the UPSL Kentucky/Tennessee Division. With standout performances by their Captain, #10 Świerkosz scored two goals on the night, and Center Forward #15 Beganovic scored the opening goal and kept the pressure on the Pumas defense all night. BGFC also saw the return of their starting Keeper, #1 Gonzalez, off his one-game suspension from earning a red card in their match on May 5th.
Pumas started the match strong by controlling most of the early possession and had the better of the early chances. However, the tide began to turn in favor of the Golden Lions as Beganovic wiped a ball past the Pumas Keeper; 1-0 BGFC.
The opening moments were not all stellar for BGFC as their all-star caliber Defender #5 Ahamad was shown a Yellow Card in the 24th minute. However, he was able to regroup himself and black the free kick of Pumas.
BGFC kept the pressure on, and in the 41st minute, they were rewarded with a Penalty Kick as #11 Bryan was chopped down in the box. The Golden Lions Captain, #10 Świerkosz, stepped up and struck a beautiful shot past the Pumas Keeper. With a 2 to 0 lead, the Golden Lions were content with seeing out the half.
The opening 20 minutes of the second half were very competitive as both teams had shots and opportunities, but no goals were scored. In the 62nd minute, BGFC Caption #10 Świerkosz was shown a Yellow Card for a challenge. However, again BGFC was able to turn Pumas away from their desired goal.
Things finally turned all BGFC in the 73rd minute as the Red Dragon himself, #11 Bryan, scored to give the Golden Lions a 3-0 lead, and the rout was on. The remainder of the match was all BGFC, as several players had multiple opportunities to score. But the G.O.A.T. of the BGFC franchise, #10 Świerkosz, put the final nail in Pumas as he scored in the 81st minute to cap the night at 4 to 0 in favor of the Golden Lions.
The results shook up the UPSL Kentucky/Tennessee Division as BGFC moved up to 4th in the table and only 1 point behind PCDA Black (who the Golden Lions lost to on Friday), who the Golden Lions host on Friday Night at 7 PM at Preston Miller Park. After the loss to BGFC, Pumas Premier fell to 6th and just outside of the playoffs. Pumas will look to rebound and get back into the playoff picture as they host fellow non-current playoff team, St. Louis Fusion, on Saturday at 4 PM at Graves County High School Soccer Complex.
