EKU Soccer’s Most Decorated Team in Program History

Last week Eastern Kentucky University’s 2024 class became the most highly decorated group of incoming players in program history. On March 10, head coach Matt Cosinuke announced that the team signed Bo Claussen from Virginia and Fernanda Quiroz, a U15/U17 Mexico Youth National Team player. Earlier this year the Colonels had already signed three All-Americans; before 2024, the team had only signed one incoming freshman All-American in nearly twenty years.

This year’s team consists of incredible talent. Quiroz is officially the third youth national call up signed under Coach Cosinuke. She joins Nerea de Diego (Spain U15, U17, U19, U20) and Chiara Premoli (Italy U16, U19). A defender from Virginia, Claussen is star in her own right; she was a captain for two years at her high school and played every minute for her team. Head Coach Cosinuke is very excited to welcome not only these two new players but also proud of the entire team’s performance and skills.

According to an article posted on EKU’s website, Coach Cosinuke is quoted saying “The entire class reflects the direction and future for our program… These young women will be building upon our existing foundation and help us push this family for championships and NCAA tournament appearances.”
During their Spring 2024 season, the Colonels’ women’s soccer team will play six games between March 3 and April 21. This schedule includes five home games and one away match; the home games are free and open to the public per EKU’s website. Their 2024 season begins in August so be sure to stay tuned for updates as the season approaches!
