Lexington SC sign KY native Joshua Head
Lexington Sporting Club may be nearing the end of its inaugural season with just 8 matches remaining. However, the Sporting Director/Head Coach Sam Stockley is still working on his vision of developing young talent, especially young talent from Kentucky, adding a new member to the squad that some fans may have seen hanging with the reserves during the Kickers match. This morning, Lexington SC announced the signing of 19-year-old striker Joshua Head, an Owensboro native and former FC Cincinnati Academy player.
Joshua Head was a standout player in high school at Owensboro High School, tallying 32 goals and 10 assists while being named the 2019 District 9 Player of the Year. Head also spent time in the FC Cincinnati Academy, racking up 15 goals in the past season while making 3 appearances, with 2 starts, for FC Cincinnati 2 in the 2022 MLS Next Pro season, tallying 177 minutes and assists in his time on the pitch in matches against Orlando City B (05/29), RNY FC (06/11), and Inter Miami II (06/19). I found a compilation of Head’s highlights posted on Hudl from May of this year – Watch Here.
Head spoke on what the opportunity to play for Lexington means to him in the club’s press release, saying, “It means everything (to sign with Lexington SC), My whole life this is what I’ve wanted to be – a professional soccer player – and Lexington has provided me the opportunity to be able to play the game I love at a high level and I just can’t wait to be able to express my talents and my hard work. This is a great first club to be at with great fans and support and a great environment all around.”
Regarding the remaining matches in 2023, Head wants to “Get minutes with the team and score some goals and hopefully help the team to make a push for the playoffs and beyond. I expect big things of myself and I just hope to help the team in as many ways as I can whether it’s just with hard work, scoring goals, or off the field.”
Coach Sam Stockley spoke about the fresh signing – “We are extremely excited to have Josh Head signed with us for the entire season with the option to extend,” Stockley continued. “Since he’s been with us he has worked extremely hard and shown real good quality. Josh fits our profile as a young striker: (he’s) physically and athletically astute, technically very good, and has a huge hunger to score goals as well as a great work rate and a desire to progress within our game model…We believe that Josh will be a great prospect to grow into the future of the club along with several other young stars, which fits our philosophy of providing opportunities to young talent across the Bluegrass region.”
Head is now the 5th Kentucky native to join the Lexington SC squad. The others are Kaelon Fox (the club’s first-ever signing), Kimball Jackson (Lafayette HS graduate and possibly a former U19 teammate of Josh with FC Cincinnati), Diallo Irakoze (All-State and 42nd District MVP at Bryan Station), and Luke Phillips (Lex SC first ever USL Academy signing).
