Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 3-1 loss to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in a closely contested match on Saturday evening. While the visitors managed to take the lead through Soso Kim’s goal in the second half, the Red Wolves responded with two quickfire goals before adding a late third to secure the victory. 

Lexington SC started the game brightly, with Will Baynham and Tate Robertson linking up well in the seventh minute. However, it was not until the 36th minute that Lexington threatened again, with Robertson coming close to connecting with Ates Diouf on a headed effort. Despite having a 52% possession advantage, Chattanooga struggled to create meaningful chances in the first half. 

The second half saw both sides become more dangerous in front of goal, with Ernesto Espinoza forcing Lexington keeper Austin Causey into a save in the 51st minute. However, Lexington broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Soso Kim dribbled past the Red Wolves’ defense before slotting the ball home to give his side the lead. 

Unfortunately for Lexington, their lead was short-lived. Chattanooga equalized from a set piece just two minutes later. The home side then capitalized on a Lexington mishap in the 82nd minute to take the lead before adding a third in stoppage time to complete a remarkable second-half turnaround. 

Despite the loss, Lexington had some positives to take from the game. They dominated possession and had more shots on target than the Red Wolves, and Soso Kim’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance. However, defensive lapses proved costly, and the team must tighten up at the back to start winning games. 

Lexington SC has a week off before they return home to Toyota Stadium to face Charlotte Independence on May 13th. This will be a crucial match for the team as they look to bounce back from this defeat and start climbing up the league standings.
