Bowling Green FC sign former Lexington SC striker Joshua Head
Lexington SC’s inaugural squad with the addition of Joshua Head. The now 20-year-old signed with Lexington SC at the end of August last year, appearing in 3 matches (appearing in the 18 for 6) with 1 start and logging 58 minutes for the Boys in Green in their inaugural year before being released by the club alongside the other 13 players on December 1st. Head is the 3rd player to find a new home, joining Will Baynham (Preston Lions FC of the Victoria Premier League 1) and former captain Charlie Machell (One Knoxville SC of USL1).
Before Lexington, Head had previously been with FC Cincinnati Academy, where he had made 3 appearances for FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS Next Pro, managing to pick up 1 assist. For more about Head’s background, check out my article from when he joined Lexington.
While many may see the UPSL as a step down from the USL1 for Head, the move bodes well for Head’s overall development. In the 3 matches he played, he only got to make a little impact besides playing the entire 1st half of LSC’s final game down in Greenville. In his other 2 appearances, subbed on in the 78th minute in the away match against the Hailstorm on 09/07 and in the 90th minutes of the 09/11 road match against Fuego, he did not really get a solid chance to be able to put his mark on the game. The move down to the UPSL could be the perfect retooling he needs to reestablish himself. Head has the physique and the skills to be a stellar Center Forward for the Golden Lions, and the move will provide him the playing time he needs to jump back up into the professional ranks in the future. Bowling Green FC has been a club that has proven to develop talent, such as Lousiville City’s most recent signing, Jansen Wilson, who netted 9 goals and picked up 5 assists in his time with the Golden Lions. BGFC has produced multiple other notable talents, such as…
- Anthony Cano (now with St. Louis City SC Academy)
- Damir Beganovic (St. Louis City Academy)
- Will Bryan (Lipscomb University)
Head will be looking to add himself to this growing list of names that have come out of the small talent factory of Bowling Green FC.
